The constitution of each of us varies. Each individual has his own preference for and reaction to different foods. Some like durian, while others detest it. Some drink milk as a common drink, while others will be subjected to diarrhoea, abdomial pain or vomiting.

As a rule, an individual of certain deficient constitution should take more of certain nutritous food. However, some deficient indviduals simply cannot accept nourishing foods as they cause them harm or ill. This brings us to the individual's constitution - Yin or Yang?

How can you determine your body, whether it is yin or yang?

First, you should determine your body type.

There are 5 factors to determine your body type.
They are :

  1. Hot or cold
  2. Dry or damp
  3. Excess and deficiency
  4. Dispositions
  5. Sex life

1. To determine your hot or cold type, you should answer the following questions:

  1. Do you normally have cold hands or cold feet? If yes, then your score is -8.
  2. Do you normally have warm hands or warm feet? If yes, then your score is +8.
  3. Do you generally prefer cold winter to hot summer? If yes, then your score is -4.
  4. Do you generally prefer hot summer to cold winter? If yes, then your score is +4.
  5. If you can't decide to any of the questions, then your score is neutral i.e. 0.

How to calculate (Hot or Cold):
If your answers to the second and third are positives then you get a total of (+8) + (-4) = +4

2. To determine your dry or damp type, you should calculate your body weight. Overweight is yin and underweight is yang. Each overweight of 5 lbs is counted as -1 and underweight is counted as +1. The maximum is +8 or -8.
How to calculate : If you are 10 lbs overweight, your score is -2. If you are 15 lbs underweight, your score is +3. If you are 45 lbs overweight, your score is -8.

3. To determine your excess and deficiency type, you should answer the following questions:

  1. Do you normally feel energetic? Your score is +8.
  2. Do you seldom feel tired but only once in a while? Your score is +4.
  3. Do you normally feel lazy but not tired? Your score is -4.
  4. Do you normally feel tired? Your score is -8.
  5. You don't know the answer. Your score is 0.

How to calculate (Excess or Deficiency) : If you are positive to first and 3rd question then your score averages up to (+8)+(-4)=+4 divide by 2 = +2.

4. To determine your dispositions type, you should answer the following question:

Do you fall to sleep while you are sitting in a car or on board a plane?

  1. If very often or easily = -8
  2. If never or only extremely tired = +8
  3. If easily when a little tired = +4
  4. If occasionally even though not tired = -4

How to calculate (Dispositions): if both +8 and +4 are applicable to you then you pick +8. If both -4 and -8 are applicable to you then pick -8.

5. To determine your sex life type, you should answer the following questions:

  1. Enjoy sex more than food = +4
  2. Enjoy food more than sex = -4

How to calculate (Sex Life): If your score is +4 and +8 then you pick +8. If both -4 and -8 applicable to you then pick -8. If you can't decide then your score is 0.

Final Score:
Add up all the five factors and average it by 5.

A person with a Yang body type should eat more Yin foods while a Yin body type should eat more Yang foods in order to create a Yin and Yang balance in the body.
